Macon native Chris Hatcher enters his 6th season as the head coach of the Valdosta State Blazers. During his first five seasons at VSU, Hatcher has led the Blazers to a 59-7 (.894) record including a GSC record of 43-2 (.956).
2004 – Finished 13-1 and won school’s first national championship in football; Won
Gulf South Conference championship for fourth time in last five years. Advanced
to national playoffs for fifth straight year. Eleven players named to all-conference
team. Winning percentage (.894) is highest among active coaches who have
coached for a minimum of five years. Named Division II regional and national
coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association. Selected to coach in the Hula Bowl Classic
Hatcher coached two time Harlon Hill Trophy Winner, given annually to the best player in Division II, Dusty Bonner, who led the nation with 4037 passing yards and 52 touchdown passes in 2001. The Blazers outscored their opponents by a combined 617 to 198 during the season.
